10 Acts of Self Care

Incorporating acts of self-care into a busy day is essential for maintaining mental, emotional, and physical well-being.

Be it fear of missing out, full on workloads, technologocal advancements meaning we are always 'on' unless we actively sign off; increased expectations, a busy schedule.. it seems life has become so fast paced that we're in danger of not prioritising our own needs first.

"Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, but today is a gift. That is why it is called the present." - Bil Keane

Here are 10 self care practices we can actively incorporate even during a hectic schedule to bring a bit more slow living into play.:

1. Morning meditation: Start your day with a few minutes of mindfulness or breathing exercises. This can help to set a positive and calm tone for the rest of the day.

2. Take regular breaks: Ensure that you take short breaks throughout the day. Use these moments to stretch, take a walk, or engage in a quick activity that helps you relax and clear your mind. A friend of mine who works from home swears by a 'walker' a bit like a treadmill but you're only required to walk!

3. Stay hydrated: Remember to drink plenty of water and stay hydrated. Proper hydration can boost your energy levels and overall well-being. If water is not your thing try adding chopped lime and cucumber. It transforms the taste into something very satisfying.

4. Healthy snacks: Nourish your body with healthy and nutritious snacks. Avoid relying on junk food or sugary treats that can lead to energy crashes and mood swings. See my previous blog on the power of eating foods in a particular order - fibre first, fats and protein then lastly carbohydrates.

5. Prioritise sleep: Make sleep a priority by setting a consistent sleep schedule. Aim for a good quality and sufficient duration of sleep each night to recharge your body and mind. Bedtime yin yoga has been so helpful for me. A 20 minute practice of 3 minute held poses whilst in bed it slows a racing mind and relaxes the body ready for sound deep sleep.

6. Set boundaries: Learn to say no and establish boundaries. Overcommitting can quickly lead to burnout, so be mindful of your limits and make time for yourself.

7. Practice gratitude: Take a moment each day to reflect on things you are thankful for. This simple practice can help shift your mindset to a more positive and appreciative state. Make a skincare ritual of it and apply Skin Elixir at the same time.

8. Engage in a hobby: Dedicate some time to a hobby or activity that brings you joy and helps you relax. Whether it's reading, painting, or playing an instrument, doing something you love is important for self-care.

9. Connect with loved ones: Even if you're busy, make an effort to connect with your loved ones. Quality time with family and friends can provide emotional support and help relieve stress.

10. Unplug from technology: Take short breaks from technology throughout the day to reduce screen time. Engage in activities that don't involve screens, such as going for a walk, practicing yoga, or listening to music.

Remember that incorporating even small self-care activities into your busy day can make a significant difference in your overall well-being and happiness.
