An Anti Microbial Juice for a Skin & Energy Boost

A drink that cleanses you from the inside out has got to be like nectar for the skin right?

I've come across this wonderful recipe (you can thank Risa's Tips) for a deeply cleansing and anti bacterial juice. A simply delicious 4 ingredient juice. The idea is to drink this AM and PM. It got me thinking that this juice - it being so anti bacterial and anti inflammatory - could really would help reduce menopausal belly too - just a hunch.  I'm going to give this a go for a week and report back (starting Thursday).

What's in the Juice?

Basically juice together all the ingredients listed in the image. Make sure to chop finely to optimise the liquid. You can also boil washed pineapple skin (bring to boil for about 5-10 mins, then let it simmer for 45 mins), drain the liquid then once cool you can add this to the four ingredients to thin out the juice. And, keep the fibre (make a banana smoothie with it). The skin is full of the powerful enzyme Bromelain proven to be anti inflammatory, antioxidant and antibacterial (Source).Skin Glow Juice

 4 Powerhouse Ingredients

Pineapple contains Bromelain which has anti inflammatory properties that can kill bacteria and fight infections.

Pineapple is also rich in Manganese which is one of nine trace minerals our body needs for healthy function such a protecting cells from free radical damage and turning the food we eat into energy,  forming bones and connective tissue such as cartilage.

Celery Celery's mineral salts are antibacterial they kill bacteria such as streptococcus whilst encouraging healthy environment for good bacteria to flourish.

Celery provides several micronutrients, making it a valuable addition to any meal. Not only a great source of Vitamin C, Celery is also rich in a phytochemical known as phthalides. This compound is thought to relax artery wall tissues to promote healthy blood flow. This increased blood flow may lead to lower blood pressure. Additionally research shows that a celery seed extract known as L-3-n-butylphthalide improves both cognition and memory. Erm, does anyone else need more Celery in my life!?

Ginger has antimicrobial activity against E coli and Salmonella typhi.

Ginger is a herb and is actually a rhizome, not a root. A rhizome is an underground stem. It’s closely related to turmeric, cardamom, and galangal. Ginger is high in gingerol, a substance with powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.

Cucumber seeds contains alkaloids and glycosides shown to inhibit growth of bacteria -streptococcus and staphlylococcus.

Not only is a whole cucumber only 16 calories it is 95% water and is jam packed with vitamins and minerals. Cucumber is actually able to cool our blood hence the term 'cool as a cucumber' - when applied topically it can depuff the face - and eally does work to reduce swelling. Cucumbers contain both insoluble and soluble fibre that helps you feel full (so makes sense to drink this in the morning) and also lowers bad cholesterol in your body.
