When designing and first formulating my products I always have my customer's skin woes at heart and mind. Many of my customers are mid 40's upwards and are experiencing symptoms of menopause some of which impact skin. Cucumber is naturally a wonderful skincare ingredient to include in my skin healing formations and is often considered a cool skin elixir due to several reasons, to follow we look at some of these reasons.
1. Hydration
Cucumbers have a high water content, which helps to hydrate the skin. They provide moisture to the skin cells and can help in maintaining a healthy water balance, making the skin look plump and refreshed. Menopausal skin tends to become dry and dehydrated due to hormonal changes, Cucumber helps to hydrate the skin and prevent dryness.
2. Soothing and calming properties
Cucumbers contain antioxidants and anti-inflammatory compounds. These properties can help soothe and calm irritated or inflamed skin, making it an ideal ingredient for sensitive or sunburned skin.
3. Skin brightening
Cucumbers contain vitamins C and K, which have skin brightening properties. Applying cucumber onto the skin can help reduce the appearance of dark spots, pigmentation, and under-eye circles, giving the skin a bright and refreshed look.Cucumbers are rich in antioxidants like vitamin C and beta-carotene, which help to combat free radicals and protect the skin from oxidative stress. This can prevent premature aging and maintain a youthful appearance.Menopausal skin is prone to discoloration, dark circles, and broken capillaries. Cucumbers contain vitamin K, which has been known to improve these issues by strengthening blood vessel walls and reducing discoloration.
4. Pore minimising
Cucumbers have astringent properties, meaning they can help tighten and minimize the appearance of pores. This can contribute to smoother looking skin and a reduction in breakouts.
5. Cooling and refreshing sensation
The high water content of cucumbers, combined with their natural cooling properties, can provide a refreshing sensation when applied to the skin. This can be particularly beneficial during hot weather or when dealing with skin irritation. Menopausal symptoms such as hot flashes and night sweats can cause the skin to feel irritated and flushed. Cucumbers have a natural cooling effect on the skin, which helps to soothe and calm any inflammation or redness.
6. Anti-inflammatory properties
Menopausal skin often experiences increased sensitivity and inflammation. Cucumbers have natural anti-inflammatory properties that can reduce swelling, puffiness, and redness in the skin. My All Around Eyes Elixir cooling roller ball eye treatment with cucumber is a perfect addition to your skincare routine and will depuff and brighten under eyes very quickly. You will also find cucumber is the much loved Intensive Night Cream.
7. Gentle exfoliation
Cucumbers have a mild exfoliating effect due to their natural enzymes. Regularly applying cucumber on the skin can help to remove dead skin cells, unclog pores, and promote a smoother complexion.
Overall, cucumbers provide essential hydration, cooling, antioxidants, vitamins, and anti-inflammatory properties that are beneficial for menopausal skin. Cucumber's natural properties make it a desirable ingredient in skincare products or as a homemade facial treatment for its hydrating, soothing, and brightening effects on the skin.
