Nourish Your Skin from Within: The Power of Good Nutrition & Seed Cycling

In our quest for flawless skin or at least skin that feels and looks well nourished with a radiant healthy glow, we often focus solely on external skincare products and treatments. However, the secret to achieving healthy, glowing skin may actually lie within our diet. As far as topical treatments go you can trust the Skin Elixir range of handmade, multi award winning skin care designed to truly nourish the skin to transform the health of skin but by nourishing our bodies with the right nutrients we can support our skin from the inside out and unlock its natural radiance.

Let's dive into the power of good nutrition for achieving a glowing complexion.

1. Antioxidant-Rich Foods

Incorporating a variety of antioxidant-rich foods into your diet can help protect your skin from free radical damage and promote a youthful appearance. Berries, leafy greens, and colourful vegetables are excellent sources of antioxidants that can help maintain skin integrity and support collagen production.

2. Omega-3 Fatty Acids

Omega-3 fatty acids, found in fatty fish like salmon and mackerel, play a crucial role in maintaining skin health. These healthy fats help strengthen the skin barrier, reduce inflammation, and improve overall hydration, leading to a smoother and more supple complexion. If fish is not on the cards then walnuts and flax seeds are a great source.

3. Hydration

Staying hydrated is essential for healthy skin, as water helps flush out toxins and keep skin cells plump and hydrated. Make sure to drink an adequate amount of water throughout the day and incorporate hydrating foods such as water-rich fruits and vegetables into your meals and fibre rich foods like watermelon that satiate and keep us fuller for longer whilst providing incredible hydration.

4. Collagen Boosting Foods

Collagen is a vital protein that supports skin elasticity and firmness. Incorporating collagen-boosting foods like bone broth, citrus fruits rich in vitamin C, and protein sources like eggs and lean meats can help support your body's collagen production and maintain skin strength.

5. Inflammatory Foods

Certain foods can trigger inflammation in the body, leading to skin issues like acne, redness, and irritation. Limiting the consumption of processed foods, sugary snacks, and dairy products can help reduce inflammation and improve skin clarity.

By focusing on nourishing your skin from within through a balanced and nutrient-rich diet, you can support your skin's health and achieve a radiant complexion. Remember, beauty truly does start from the inside out, and the foods you eat can play a significant role in the overall health and appearance of your skin. Incorporate these skin-loving foods into your daily meals and watch as your complexion transforms from the inside out.

Seed Cycling

I truly believe that skin care is an inside job and happiness is hormonal! What we put on our skin topically is so important and to that end you of course have Skin Elixir for that however nutrition is key too and this week I've been grinding up seeds this week for myself and friends.

A teaspoon a day can have great benefits for hormonal balance.

Known as 'seed cycling', the seeds used in seed cycling - in my case organic flax, sesame, pumpkin and sunflower seeds are known to contain specific nutrients that support hormone production and balance, such as lignans and omega-3 fatty acids.

Here are some known benefits of seed cycling for hormones oh and let's not forget how they benefit skin health too on account of their nutrient rich composition. They are a great source of folic acid, selenium, magnesium, vitamins B2, B6 and Vitamin E and sunflower, flax and pumpkin promote collagen production.

I'm all about the benefits to mood (see point 5). As an aside these seeds don't contain hormones, their natural goodness help regulate the body's hormone functions. Seed cycling looks like a good complement to HRT.

1. Flaxseeds are rich in lignans, a type of plant compound that can help modulate oestrogen levels in the body. Pumpkin seeds also contain zinc, which can help support proper oestrogen metabolism.

2. Sesame seeds are a good source of lignans, which can help support progesterone levels. Sunflower seeds are rich in vitamin E, which may also support progesterone production.

3. By supporting hormone balance, seed cycling may help regulate menstrual cycles and alleviate symptoms of hormonal imbalances, such as irregular periods, PMS, and menstrual cramps.

4. Hormone balance is essential for reproductive health, and seed cycling may help support overall reproductive health by balancing hormone levels.

5. Seed cycling may help reduce symptoms of hormonal imbalances, such as mood swings, fatigue, acne, and irregular periods. Pumpkin seeds offer tryptophan which aids better sleep and mood.
