Reasons Moringa is so Healing for You

Moringa is a beautiful ingredient, in today's blog we will explore why it is such a healing oil and why I decided to include it in my Magnificent Night Oil.

Known as the most nutrient dense tree on the planet, Moringa Oleifera is often referred to as the 'Miracle Tree' or 'Tree of Life' and has some precious healing effects. it is grown in tropical and subtropical regions of the world where there is a temperature of 25-35 degrees centigrade. The whole tree from seed, bark, pods, stem, leaves and fruits can all be used and each have healing properties. It is rich in nutrition, owing to the presence of a variety of phytochemicals. It has long been used by by Indians and Africans as a herbal medicine and is reputed to cure more than 300 diseases. This scientific report covers its health benefits in details.

You will often find Moringa - the result of drying and powdering the leaves - presented as a highly nutritious powder (packed with 46 known antioxidants) which can be added to smoothies to boost health and vitality. Here's a recipe you may wish to try courtesy of www.kindearth.net

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon moringa leaf powder
  • 200ml water (filtered)
  • 2 ripe bananas (medium size)
  • 2 tablespoons hemp seeds (hulled)
  • 1 cm cubed fresh ginger
  • 1 large handful of baby spinach leaves
  • 100g frozen pineapple (½ cup)
  • 100g frozen mango (⅔ cup)
According to a science direct study (see linked report above) around 6 spoonfuls of the leaf powder can meet a woman's daily iron and calcium requirements during pregnancy.

So what about the oil and why is it so good for skin health?

Moringa Oil is a rich source of vitamins, powerful antioxidants and minerals that meets all your skin needs. It is remarkably high in vitamin c, around 7 times more than oranges. Vitamin C is needed in order for our skin to naturally produce collagen.

Moringa is jam-packed with nutrients that have been shown to slow down the aging process, combat stress, create healthier skin, support bone health, lower cholesterol levels and help with vision (to name a few of the benefits). The report linked above goes into much detail.

In the historical textbook of Ayurveda, Bhava Prakash Moringa Oil is referred to as Sigur (moves like an arrow) for its ability to rapidly and deeply penetrate tissues, even to the depth of the bone marrow for deep cleansing.

Historically the Romans and Greeks used this edible oil for creating skin lotions, ointments, and perfumes. In Egypt, Moringa oil was used for protecting the skin against the ravages of sun, sand, and dust during the long travels in the desert.

Moringa Oil helps in cleansing, nourishing, and nurturing your skin naturally and promotes youthful skin tone.

In a three month study collagen formation increased along with skin elasticity. You can read the findings here.

Highly repairing, Moringa Oil's antioxidant qualities are able to quash the effects of skin inflammation caused by oxidative stress.

It is a great oil for both oily and dry skin the high level of Vitamin B works to attract water to the skin's outermost layer and is able to penetrate deeply into the tissue to restore skin moisture. Likewise for oily skin, the fact it decreases inflammation and stress, also means that oil production is minimised so it is a fabulous non pore clogging oil for balancing all skin types.

Inflammation is caused by oxidative stress - from poor diet to lack of sleep, every day pollutants the antioxidant power of moringa works to control and balance skin stress thus minimising skin conditions such as acne, redness, eczema and psoriasis.

A review of the Magnificent Night Oil

"Its scent is earthy, floral and grassy all at once. I've never used a night oil before. Always thought they'd be too, well, oily and I've got quite oily skin. But this sinks straight in, no clammy feeling, no gunky hands. It all blends. And that scent lasts 'til way past the morning time. It's calming and soothing to wake up to as well as to go to bed in" Anna Griffin
