GUEST BLOG: The Reiki Way to Nourish your Skin by Ros Horsley

A reiki master goes through three attunements to learn how to rebalance their energy, as well as that of others. Reiki is translated as ‘universal energy’.

The past 18 months has focused on the science of life, the importance of breathing and the 20 second hand washing. The skin is no different, remembering it is the largest organ in our body. Check out the Skin Elixir moisturiser here

We are made up of 80% water which we need to support food digestion, elimination and other processes.

What we eat is key to our general health and energy. I was lucky to have a grandmother and mother who cooked from natural ingredients and so absorbed the habit early on. We drank water, lots of it.

In my first reiki attunement, 15 years ago, we were asked to refrain from meat, fish, fowl and alcohol  for the week  leading up to our training and to prioritise more plant based options and fresh water.  Change unconscious past habits and rebalance that natural energy – ki. Like ‘new year’ after the Christmas celebrations, we become lighter and brighter by taking back control of our diet, as well as cleansing, toning and moisturising the skin with natural products.

To complete this level meant another 21 days of eating a vegetarian diet. Research was clearly needed to create a plan. The body needs carbohydrates, proteins and fats to function efficiently. Interestingly,  calories are man-made measurements of energy and are used by the food industry, not the body.

Reiki energy rebalancing teaches you to respect ‘you’ and your body. Eat the rainbow. Each food has its own energy with water and fresh vegetables being the lightest  and meat fish, fowl and hard cheeses being the densest. Eat seasonally Eat local. Like you, after a long journey, food becomes tired and starts to wilt.

A reiki treatment typically lasts for one hour and has the advantage of being hands free and can be in the form of distance healing. The practitioner explains the process and tunes into your energy, working through the body to relax and revitalise it. People typically report how calm they feel.

Shower your self with tlc this summer and be "Bien dans sa peau," (Feel good in your skin).

Green Recipes

The Heart chakra is all about connecting and relating. The emphasis here is on love, giving and receiving, and how open we are in relationships. Love is the energy that helps transform emotions and experiences. It’s an essential element in any relationship, whether it is with others or one’s self (one self or one’s elf).

Stuffed Aubergine Canneloni.

This Italian recipe suggestion uses all the colours associated with the red, rising hotter air, which crosses with the descending, white crown energy at the heart to give the pink of a rose. The yellow solar plexus energy crosses with the blue of the air energy at the heart, to reflect the green of nature around us, hence ‘the heart of the matter’.

Ingredients – for 4 people

Olive oil for frying
2 aubergines, sliced (3 slices per person)
2 large handfuls of spinach or rocket leaves
400gm of Mozzarella cheese, sliced
Tub of sun-blush tomatoes
